As part of my Sustainability Certificate requirement, I completed a semester-long capstone project during my senior year. From January to May 2025, I collaborated with three team members on a marketing campaign for Tanjuria Willis, founder of Atlanta Sustainable Fashion Week (ATLSFW). As a journalism major, my role focused on communications and brand storytelling for ATLSFW, a B-Corp Certified organization based in Atlanta that promotes sustainable practices within the fashion industry. Throughout the semester, I gained real hands-on experience through attending key events, promoting upcoming shows, and creating content that educated followers, subscribers, and the broader community about the impactful work of ATLSFW and its partners in driving positive change within the industry.
As part of my role with Atlanta Sustainable Fashion Week, I was responsible for managing and writing newsletters for ATLSFW. I wrote five newsletters communicating essential updates and sustainability education to an audience that may not be as active on social media but whose support was crucial to ATLSFW.
Event Promotion: Focused on communicating ATLSFW’s partnerships with key organizations like Mercedes-Benz Stadium and College Football Playoffs.
Sustainability Education: Provided readers with important statistics, tips and education on sustainable practices, especially in fashion.
Celebrating Milestones: Worked to educate subscribers about the success of Georgia's first Zero-Waste Fashion Week in 2024, emphasizing its significance and impact.
Community Engagement: Featured ways for subscribers to become involved in ATLSFW, including volunteer opportunities, vendor details and event participation.
I met weekly with Tanjuria to discuss key milestones, partnerships and upcoming events, ensuring the newsletters communicated essential information and aligned with ATLSFW's goals.
I sharpened my skills in crafting compelling brand stories and using newsletters to educate and reach diverse audiences.
I focused on communications for Atlanta Sustainable Fashion Week (ATLSFW) across multiple platforms. I conducted interviews with designers for both the Habitat for Humanity and Spring Fashion Shows, turning these conversations into engaging social media posts. These posts highlighted the designers' inspiring stories and their passion for sustainability.
To make ATLSFW's social media presence more personal, I wanted followers to connect directly with the designers behind the shows. Personalizing the posts created excitement for upcoming events while also showcasing the designers' commitment to sustainability. Seeing faces and personalized posts in the feed encouraged engagement and helped increase traction across our social media accounts.
This experience allowed me to merge my communications skills with my personal interest in sustainability, gaining valuable insight into how to create and present impactful messages to best reach digital audiences.
I also contributed to live event coverage, created graphics, and developed posts to promote key events and dates, ensuring real-time engagement with the audience.
Skills in photoshop, Adobe Platforms and content scheduling platforms such as Loomly and Mailchimp.
